Handcrafted with Pride

Each piece is meticulously crafted by our master artisans in Bau Truc Village using traditional techniques passed down through generations. This item is made without a pottery wheel, using only the hands and traditional tools, preserving the authentic Cham pottery heritage that spans over 800 years.

The traditional Cham pottery making process begins with the skilled potters, primarily women, who collect the clay from the banks of the Quao River. Unlike many other pottery traditions, Cham potters don't use a pottery wheel. Instead, they shape the clay using their hands and simple bamboo tools.

After shaping, the pottery is dried in the sun before being fired in an open bonfire using rice straw and wood. This traditional firing technique gives Cham pottery its distinctive reddish-brown color and rustic appearance. It's a craft that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The Cham people have preserved their unique pottery-making techniques for over 800 years, passing the craft from generation to generation. Today, Bau Truc Village is recognized as one of Southeast Asia's oldest pottery villages still in operation.

Cultural Significance

Cham pottery from Bau Truc Village represents one of Vietnam's oldest pottery traditions. The Cham people have preserved their unique pottery-making techniques for over 800 years, passing the craft from generation to generation.

Unlike many modern pottery practices, Cham artisans work without a potter's wheel. Instead, they use their hands to shape the clay, employing techniques that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.

Design Elements

The distinctive reddish-brown color comes from the special clay found only in the Bau Truc area. After shaping, pieces are burnished with a stone to create a smooth surface before being fired in an open kiln using rice straw and wood.

Traditional decorative patterns often feature geometric designs and motifs inspired by nature, daily life, and Cham cultural symbols, representing the deep connection between the Cham people and their environment.
